WHAT DOES BEING A "CENTRIST" MEAN TO YOU, AND WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED?
A centrist is a person who understands that the middle way is the path to success and progress. A centrist seeks to unify, to find common ground and on that ground build an effective platform to govern and lead. A centrist understands that our country is diverse and that diversity is a strength. A centrist understands that they are elected to represent all of their constituents, not just their base, and that the laws they enact should protect, serve, and benefit the entirty of the whole, not just their base of supporters.
I joined this movement because I do not believe that the current system, dominated by two self-serving party organizations, can govern and that if something is not done to free our politics from their stranglehold, we will cease to exist as a unified nation.
WHAT IS A POLICY ISSUE YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND WHY?
While there are a number of issues that I have strong feelings about, my number one cause is to restore accountability, transparency, and integrity to our political system. We cannot move forward and lead our own people, much less the world, until we stop playing to the margins and seek the middle ground. I want to see a swell if independant elected officials who seek to represent the people and not the party.
HOW DO YOU THINK WE CAN UNITE OUR COUNTRY AND FIX POLITICS?
I believe the people of this country are not nearly as divided as is their leadership. I believe that the people will unite around those who will clearly articulate a vision for a country that offers opportunity, that is driven by hope and aspiration, not fear and demagoguery. That reinstills the founding promises of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happines in language that captures the modern imagination. A vision that appeals to the angels of our better nature and looks forward to a better world waiting to be born.
