What does being a "Centrist" mean to you, and why did you get involved?
After multiple debates with far Left and far Right friends asking for solutions to the policies they oppose and getting nowhere, I found myself getting frustrated with everyone on a daily basis. People were also accusing me of being in support of their opposing party just because I didn't feel confident with their propositions one bit. Both sides are being bigots, both sides are being racist and both sides are getting nowhere close to unity. Anytime I hear talks about a "centrist" in the news, it's almost blatantly disregarded because it doesn't bring out the emotion in the viewers. After reading the focus and principles on The Centrist Project, I finally found a party (the "un-party") that I feel almost completely in-line with.
What is a policy issue you are passionate about and why?
Human Capital. We have a large 'uneducated' population yet we are home to the world's best education facilities. I am also quite passionate about National Security since I do have a fear of terrorism but I don't believe banning countries is the solution. Lastly, I'm not open to sharing tax-payer benefits to immigrants who are here illegally, but also don't support kicking them and their children out and telling their children they don't have a fair chance to achieve the American Dream because "their parents screwed up." I find that a backwards mentality and yields no progress, creates more tension, and could eventually break ties with some great allies.
How do you think we can unite our country and fix our politics?
Stop thinking about conventional democratic and republican policies and start thinking about rational solutions. I am in full support of bipartisan/rational policies that lead towards solving the problem.
Anything else you'd like to add?
"Rooted in rationality, inspired by action."--> This is what I believe is missing from the Democrats and Republicans. The further they lean to the right or left, the further we are from ever actually being 'United' states.
