Matt Woody, CA CD-42

Matt Woody is a lifelong Independent running for Congress in California’s District 42. He likes a good challenge, and has run marathons and summited mountains. Beating an entrenched incumbent is next.

Matt has been involved with public service his entire adult life. As a journalist, he investigated corrupt politicians and worked with multiple Pulitzer Prize winners during a career spanning over a decade. He then moved on to literally serving people in the hospitality industry, running restaurants for the better part of a decade. Now, campaigning for the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s 42nd Congressional District, Matt aims to serve in yet another way.

As a lifelong Independent, Matt has been waiting for years for an organization like Unite America and trail-blazers like Alaska Gov. Bill Walker, and is excited to help further the cause of practical, responsive government as the Founding Fathers intended.

California’s top-two primary presents a unique opportunity for centrist Independents like Matt. Under the state’s election laws, all candidates, regardless of party, appear on the primary ballot together, and the top two vote-getters advance to the general election. When multiple challengers from one party or another split their partisans’ votes – as will be the case in Matt’s race – a realistic path to victory is presented.
