WHAT DOES BEING A "CENTRIST" MEAN TO YOU, AND WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED?
The duopoly of the left and right has become a threat to the rights and wellbeing of ordinary citizens in America today. From city council chambers to the oval office in Washington DC, the work of the people is overshadowed by a tug of war between the left and the right. Compromise has become a taboo and extremism celebrated. Being a centrist means country and common good first rather than political party or special interest first. An independent center is able to join efforts with either the left or the right at any material time to pass legislations that promote the common good and serve the people of the country as it were.
I have been a Democrat all my life but I no longer believe that the duopoly is able to serve the common people of this country any longer. There are positive ideologies and attributes within the left and right that support the common good, but I strongly believe that special interests, big cooperations, and establishment politics have priced the people out today. Therefore, I have decided to join the independent center to fight for the heart of America and to restore the fate of the people in politics and government by being the ultimate check and balance in decision making.
WHAT IS A POLICY ISSUE YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND WHY?
I am very passionate about healthcare in general. I think it is a shame that the greatest country in the world is playing politics with the health of her citizens. I believe in the African saying that "health is wealth" and there is no meaning to life without good health first. Providing accessible, affordable and quality healthcare to citizens is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
HOW DO YOU THINK WE CAN UNITE OUR COUNTRY AND FIX POLITICS?
First, we must enlighten and educate every American in every part of our country to take their fate into their own hands and to demand their rights and freedom from those they have elected to lead them. Like Thomas Jefferson said " enlighten the people generally... tyranny and oppressions of mind and body will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day"
We must also make sure that rather than become spectators like JFK once warned, that we must become active participants in shaping the fate of our country. Education is key because the ignorance of voters can endanger the security of the whole nation like we have it today. This is how we can unite our country and fix our politics.
Today politicians from the left and right capitalize on our emotional connection to political parties and political party slates. They do everything else to preserve their seats while citizens wallow in poverty and want. They don't give a damn because we have become addicted to reelecting them without knowing what we are doing. We can no longer fire them or hold them accountable. But I say to everyone that cares, let us break this addiction and vote selfishly for our own progress as a people. Let us move for a political and economic revolution in America by building and supporting an independent center - centrists. The time is now!
