Keely Briggs was first elected in May 2015 as a city council member representing District 2 (directly representing ~34,000 people) in the City of Denton (a full service, home rule city with a population of ~134,000). She is currently serving her second term and has established a reputation for a hands on approach to citizen representation, being highly responsive to those she serves, fighting cronyism and corruption, increasing government transparency and accountability, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of public services, actually streamlining budgets and reducing tax burdens in the City of Denton, protecting neighborhoods, protecting the rights of individuals and small businesses, advocating for common-sense environmental and public health protections, and improving public safety.

A Texas native born in Tyler, Keely first came to Denton to attend the University of North Texas in 1995, where she graduated with a BA in sociology and received certification for mediation training from the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program administered by the Institute of Applied Economics at the University of North Texas.

In 1997, Keely and her husband, Chris, were happily married outside of the Little Chapel in the Woods at TWU. Keely and Chris are the proud parents of three boys. When not seeing to the important work of representing the citizens of District 2 and the City of Denton, Keely can be found volunteering in local schools where she serves on the PTSA Boards at a local high school and a middle school.
