Greg Orman is uniquely equipped to be the leader and common-sense problem solver Kansas needs in our next governor. Orman is a political independent positioned to implement the best solutions for the future, not simply follow the politics of the past.

Greg has spent his career growing businesses by not shying away from solving difficult problems. After graduating with high honors from Princeton University in 1991 with a degree in economics, he founded Environmental Lighting Concepts, which designed and installed energy-efficient lighting systems for commercial and industrial companies. In just four years time, he built the company into a multimillion-dollar thriving business with over 120 employees before selling a majority of the company to Kansas City Power and Light (KCP&L).

Following the sale, Greg was put in charge of KCP&L’s energy services business, and over the next six years developed and executed a strategy that grew the business over twenty-fold.
With those successful early years as a template, Greg continued to hone his entrepreneurial instincts by co-founding the private equity firm Denali Partners. He later took the reins as Managing Member of Exemplar Holdings LLC, which now oversees stakes in a half-dozen innovative companies.

More recently, Greg has focused on turning around troubled companies. In 2012, Greg formed Combat Brands, LLC to acquire the assets of Ringside, Inc., a Kansas-based sporting goods company in operation for over thirty years. The business was on the brink of failure before Greg took it over. And today, Combat Brands is thriving and creating jobs and opportunities right here in Kansas.
Greg's experiences have given him first-hand insight into what government can do and what it shouldn't do to drive economic growth. He understands how regulations impact businesses and ultimately job growth. He’s had to deal with the rising costs of doing business, especially the escalating cost of providing healthcare for his employees, and he knows how to balance budgets and get better results, even with limited resources.

Through these experiences, Greg has developed his capacity to solve problems. He's played a role in bringing jobs to Kansas over the last two decades and knows what it will take to make Kansas a place where other companies will want to locate.

Personal Life

Greg lives in Fairway with his wife, Sybil, their two young daughters, Imogen and Sigrid, along with their dogs, Lucy and Mala. Greg and Sybil are passionate about supporting organizations that change the lives of children.

Greg is active in the American Legion’s Boys’ State Program — a lifelong interest following his attendance at the 1986 American Legion Boys’ Nation program in Washington, D.C., where he had the privilege of meeting President Ronald Reagan in the White House Rose Garden.

Greg has served on the boards of the Kansas City Zoo and the Gala at the Glen for Cystic Fibrosis, and he led the capital campaign for the YMCA’s Youth in Government program. In 2017, Greg and Sybil were named honorary co-chairs of the Olathe-based KidsTLC annual benefit, and Sybil remains active in the Olathe Public Schools Foundation’s Women’s Giving Circle.

As a committed husband and father, Greg believes it is his obligation to leave Kansas a better place where our kids have opportunities and everyone willing to work hard has a chance to succeed regardless of their background. After seven long years of political turmoil and budget battles in Topeka, Greg understands the stakes have intensified in Kansas and knows the system is working against the interests of Kansas.

As a political independent, Greg's positive vision for Kansas and his common sense approach to problem solving make him the leader we need to right the ship and chart a successful and prosperous course for the future.
