WHAT DOES BEING A "CENTRIST" MEAN TO YOU, AND WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED?
It is evident that the two party system isn't working for us anymore. Neither side appeals to what I see are major issues in desperate need of a cure. Centrist is looking for a logical solution to a problem and choosing a decision that is best for the majority it affects; it is important not being bound by party platforms.
WHAT IS A POLICY ISSUE YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND WHY?
Due to the labor research I've done during my undergraduate, I feel the biggest issue is the middle class infrastructure. Stagnated wages coupled with rising costs of basic amenities such as healthcare and education, you find a class that is working harder than ever and getting nowhere. With the majority of the economy dependent on consumer spending, it only seems logical to bolster the heart of that spending. Simply, when the middle class does well, everyone does well.
HOW DO YOU THINK WE CAN UNITE OUR COUNTRY AND FIX POLITICS?
A couple main issues are apparent. The amount of money embedded in politics is one thing that needs to go. To think that large donations to congress, candidates, and campaigns will not have a corrupting factor on the back end is ludicrous. Also, an increase in party diversity will do congress very well. It will encourage more working across aisles as well as exchange of different ideas. The work this project does in putting backing more independents for office is a great idea. It's time to do what's right for the people, not special interests.
