WHAT DOES BEING A "CENTRIST" MEAN TO YOU, AND WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED?
It means avoiding the polarizing extremes that have been prevalent. It means taking the best of both sides and discarding the stuff that doesn't work. I got involved since I lost interest in one of the two major parties. I went to another party that was closer to the ideological extreme. That did not work for me, either. Now, I feel like I've found something that makes since and challenges me to a more rational, civil level of political discourse.
WHAT IS A POLICY ISSUE YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND WHY?
Healthcare. While in school, I've had a policy on the individual market and recently have been worry about current reforms that so far have gone backwards instead of increasing people with coverage.
HOW DO YOU THINK WE CAN UNITE OUR COUNTRY AND FIX POLITICS?
Take the rhetoric and the us versus them mentality out of politics. Let's have voluntary spending limits for candidates and political parties. Encourage more bipartisan legislation. Create a higher hurdle for groups other than candidates and political parties on regarding campaign contributions. Bar all anonymous contributions to campaigns. Limit campaign ads to candidates and political parties. Start looking at state legislative bodies and candidates that can help reform them. Not just flipping from one party majority to the other.
